Hello! My name is Emerson Alton, and I am a sophomore at UW-Milwaukee. I am majoring in K-12 Special Education and plan on becoming a High School special ed teacher. I started off my journey here studying criminology but at the end of my freshman year I switched to special education. I have been working with kids with disabilities since I was a child due to my mom having a minor in special education. I never expected this to be the path I decided to follow but I am very excited that it is. I have been working at a special ed summer camp for the past 2 summers and then a summer school program for 3 years before that. During those three years, I was a one-on-one aide for a 4-year-old boy with Angelman's syndrome and have been doing respite care (babysitting but being paid by the government) for him since then. He is now 9 and has grown tremendously already through the years I have been with him.

Theo seems awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi! I’m so glad to see many venturing into the world of adaptive education and teaching disabled students! As someone who has been in the “special” education program as well as have taught non disabled people about disability, seeing many choose this route will push more folks to being adaptive and support of disabled students. Hope to get to know you more!
